to a dear friend of mine who's been battling cancer for the past year, dan curtis. dan is a longtime resident of dayton and a piller to the community and improved the lives of countless ohioans. a dedicated volunteer, dan has given generously of his time, spirities and financial resources to make -- expertise and financial resources to make the difference of people in his community. mr. turner: he joined the dayton community coalition and stimulated the region's economy while embracing the air force as a member of the community and improving the lives of airmen. dan helped shepherd our community by selflessly giving of himself and his resources. he's always enjoyed working with people and assisting them in reaching their goals and in no place is that more evident than in his home. dan is a devoted husband and father and his relationships are characterized by selfless devotion, a caring nature. these traits carried over into his professional life where dan demonstrated an incredible work ethic, contributions to the community and his love of the country. his many achievements and quali

. thank you. >> thank you. >> hi, i'm dan gross, i'm president of the brady campaign. i also come to the issue of gun violence here personal -- through personal experience. my younger brother, matt gross, was shot in a shooting that happened on the observation deck of the empire state building in 1997. we're proud to stand here with all these great leaders, with the president and vice president earlier today, as well as with the other folks that -- who you will hear from shortly who have their own personal stories to share. today is a momentous day. but it is just the beginning and now it's up to us. and that's our message to the american public and you heard it today from the president saying that in order for change to happen on this issue, the american public is going to need to make its voice heard. and that's the roll that we at the brady campaign intend to help play along with all the other great organizations out there that are convening the voice of the american public. so our message would be to every american out there, gun owners, n.r.a. members, mothers, fathers, we're
